Care Labels for Clothing: Design Guide
A good label shall provide the information needed and remain legible for the intended lifetime of the product.

Information and user requirements
Care label helps the user take good care of the product, and the brand arranges information about composition, origin, size and identification. The exact range of data depends on the product and the sales market and should be verified by the brand before production.
Not all information has to be included on one item. The label system can separate the logo, size, composition and care instructions, if the layout is consistent and complies with the requirements for the finished product.
Readability after multiple cycles
The size of the letters, contrast, spacing and quality of the symbols influence the reading. If information is to be available for a long time, it is necessary to predict the effects of washing, friction, temperature and chemicals suitable for the product.
The sample is worth stitching into the prototype, as bending, suture and placement can obscure the text or cause discomfort.
Material and manufacturing method
The woven labels build identification and durable appearance, and the printed ones allow you to fit more variables. Often both solutions work together: jacquard textile label brand and separate label with instructions.
By choosing the ground, evaluate softness, edges, thickness, compatibility with the printing method and behaviour after washing. For several markets, prepare a controlled list of language versions.
Pre-order checklist
- Approved content and market-specific symbols
- Dimension, number of pages, folding and place of stitching
- Minimum text size and contrast
- Material and expected durability of the marking
- Language, size and quantity variants for each version
Frequently asked questions
Will woven jacquard label replace care label?
It can carry some information, but with a large number of data it is usually more practical to have a separate printed label.
Who is responsible for correcting the symbols?
The brand that markets the product should approve the content, symbols and language versions.
Where to sew the label?
In an easy-to-find place that does not cause discomfort and does not violate the function of the product. The final position is worth assessing in the prototype.
